Dreaming of Havana

It’s not a new thought - the idea that fashion is transportive. The idea that it can take you outside of yourself, to another time, another place. This is where the fashion nerds (raises hand) get to have their fun. But, I’ll be honest with you friends, nothing so erudite went into this outfit. At the time I shot/styled this, back in the summer of 2016, I just really wanted to go to Havana. It had been a big thing that american tourists were allowed to go, and I was certainly influenced by the romanticism implied in books and films. Spoiler: I got to go a mere nine months later, which was amazing, and I definitely did wear a variation on this outfit, but to me this is meant to evoke more of a Martha Gellhorn, in Key West and Havana, if she stole Ernest’s style than a full Hemingway-esque story. I’ve been thinking about this outfit - as well as the whole fashion-as-travel-device - more and more during the pandemic. Even as New York is fully open and thriving it seems, Travel is still questionable. So, in the meantime, I’m def going to use this as a place holder until we can fully travel again.
