What does the Fourth of July mean to you? I’ve had different relationships to it throughout the years (2017 and 2020 were particularly hard to feel like there was anything worth celebrating, given the political situations then), but mostly to me, it’s about friends and family. My memories of Fourth of July consist of spending the summer in Maine, wearing red, white and blue, biking to watch the fireworks from the Jetty, and as we got older, finding a place to drink. But there was always friends and family around, hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, swimsuits and sunshine. The epitome of summer, essentially.
This Year, as we’re seeing restrictions end in the U.S., the euphoria and joy is real. That’s not to say everything is perfect. But, during this summer, when we can finally see the other side of the past year or so, use this time to look forward, choose to bask in the positive so we have more energy to devote to the things that really, truly matter. To take all of the lessons we learned during the Pandemic and champion those who need it most. If you can, do something fun, spend real quality time with people you actually care about. But most of all, let the spirit of the Fourth of July, the optimism and the power, fuel your life and your fashion.
Looking back at what I just wrote, this was a lot more optimistic and world focused than fashion focused, so as much as I hate to ground it, here we are. Don’t stress about having the perfect picnic party outfit, but make your look intentional. Have fun with it. It’s why I love this Monse sweater from a few seasons back, it’s cool it’s fun, but not obviously (and scary) Stars and Stripes Forever. It’s Fashion. With a nod to the aforementioned optimism. Plus, since I’ll be by the water, I love the nautical details on these Vince shorts. And white ray-bans and espadrilles are easy classics, that will never fail you.
XOXO
