Carolina Herrera Fall/Winter 2022
There are very few things that I will get up early for. I am NOT a morning person. Especially on a day like today where the temperature is in the teens. But, one of those things I will get up for is the Carolina Herrera Show. I mean, I’m already a self-admitted super fan (read: this will be an incredibly biased and glowing review). And IT’S ON VALENTINE’S DAY??? I’m sold. I’m so there it’s insane.
I’m also a huge sucker for show notes. I LOVE reading them. So to get them in an email prior to the show felt excitedly tech-forward (not to mention sustainable!) and you can tell so much from them. Right off the bat, I knew I was going to be obsessed with the collection, when the first thing you read is a Thackeray quote. The notes stated that Creative Director Wes Gordon was inspired by the “ self-assured, strong and full-of-fire Carolina Herrera woman“, which I love but also, yeah, you’d have to be to wear some of those fire pieces that strutted down the runway. I liked how the entire collection felt new and fresh and yet so intrinsically on brand - aka “moments of exuberance.“ Which also describes the majority of the shows attendees and the celebrity studded red carpet (There’s almost too many to mention, but those I spotted included, Alexandra Daddario, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana de Bose, Alisha Boe, and Chiara Ferragni).
It’s probably impossible for me to pick a favorite look but top 5? Probably a royal purple cape, a very Blair Waldorf tweed dress, a jeweled jumpsuit, a red/pink/red tulle gown, and the finale look of a tulle cape gown, which I’d imagine Lady Gaga or someone wearing on the red carpet, while only saying “I AM A GOD.“
But all humor aside, there’s always an earnestness to the collections that I think resonates. Sure, it’s beautiful, and is definitely capital F fashion, but they feel easy. and real. And then, to end on the moment after Wes Gordon’s requisite bow, bringing out Miro Hermes and Francois Bouchet, head Patternmakers of the Carolina Herrera atelier - who have a combined 40+ years at the house. It’s such a wonderful touch that eludes to the craftsmanship involved in these more established houses that really should continue, if possible. In case you didn’t guess, I’m absolutely in love, but see below for someone of my favorite looks from the collection.
