Make a Rez : Dante New York

Make a Rez : Dante New York

In case you didn’t know, the restaurant industry has turned upside down in the last year. Essentially, it made the idea of an exclusive, hard-to-get-into-restaurant, laughably out of touch. Particularly for that period last spring when restaurants couldn’t have any diners, and were only doing takeout. Therefore, I’ve found myself repeatedly going back to restaurants in my neighborhood, part to support them and help give them business, part, because that sort of wanton search for the hotspot felt gauche during the pandemic.

That being said, Dante was one of my absolute favorites before this. Their first location on MacDougal street has been the site of many pre-pandemic happy hours and pasta feasts. Plus, the consistently get listed as one of the top bars in the world. And their cocktail menu does not disappoint. So their pandemic pivot which saw to go cocktails in little glass bottles (which make excellent storage containers in the refrigerator by the way) only made me support them more.

AND THEN! They opened another location a few blocks from me on Hudson Street. I was ecstatic. It was quickly packed with the millennials who had not fled to their hometowns or Connecticut or the Hamptons. And it still is. Try going there on a friday night, and you would have better luck getting into…something that is impossible to get into. But go ahead. Get on Resy, and make a reservation for a Tuesday 3 weeks from now. Make sure you order one of their martini’s It’s what their known for. You won’t be disappointed.

The Order: At Dante West Village? The little Gem Salad and Burrata or the half Fire Roasted Chicken. At Caffe Dante on MacDougal? The chopped salad or the Pappardelle Boar Ragu. I have never been upset when I ordered any of these.

XOXO
