Pride at The Frick

Pride at The Frick

Last Night, The Frick Collection celebrated ‘Pride at the Frick’  the museums first ever event specifically in support of the LGBTQ+ community during pride month. The first ever event, was co-hosted by Trustees Tai-Heng Chang and Cole Harrell. It’s still one of the first events that the museum has held in their new location in the Breuer Building on Madison Avenue, and they get better each time. The dress code was billed as Pastel Pride, and guests delivered, showing up in sherbet colored shades that still felt like appropriate nods to the Pride Rainbow Flag, but stood in contrast to the stark brutalist architecture surrounding it. The addition to the permanent collection, a few pieces from Queer artists have been temporarily introduced as part of the ‘Living Histories’ exhibition that gives contemporary artists the opportunity to have dialogues with the old masters of the past, sometimes addressing Queer issues that are painfully obvious, and highlighting the strides that have been made. Overall, a fun and successful evening, and here’s hoping this is only the first of many iterations of Pride at the Frick.
